Laser Depth Map

LightBurn help

Using your depth map in LightBurn

This app prepares grayscale PNG files for LightBurn. It does not send jobs to your laser, change machine settings, or communicate with laser hardware.

Import the PNG

Add the downloaded depth-map PNG to LightBurn as an image.

Use 3D Sliced mode

For galvo lasers, use LightBurn 3D Sliced mode so grayscale values are interpreted as height or depth data.

Choose depth orientation

Normal mode labels black as deepest. Inverted mode labels white as deepest.

Run material tests

Test on scrap material first and confirm your laser, lens, hatch, speed, frequency, and power settings.

Safety note

Always verify settings inside LightBurn before running a laser job. Material reaction varies widely, especially with fiber and MOPA lasers, coatings, metals, plastics, and painted surfaces.
