Laser Depth Map

LightBurn depth-map preparation

Create LightBurn-ready laser depth maps from uploaded images.

Generate downloadable grayscale PNG height maps for 3D Sliced workflows on galvo and fiber laser projects.

How it works

1

Upload an image

Start with PNG, JPG, JPEG, or WEBP artwork. The file stays transient for processing.

2

Tune the relief

Adjust levels, gamma, smoothing, detail, and inversion until the preview matches your engraving plan.

3

Download PNG

Export an 8-bit grayscale depth map and import it into LightBurn as an image.

Why depth maps matter

LightBurn 3D Sliced mode interprets grayscale values as height or depth information. A tuned depth map gives the laser software a cleaner relief signal than a standard photo, especially when you need predictable shadow, highlight, and edge behavior.

LightBurn workflow

Download the generated PNG, import it into LightBurn as an image, then use 3D Sliced mode for galvo lasers. Normal output labels black as deepest. Inverted output labels white as deepest.

Safety disclaimer

This app creates image files only. It does not connect to, configure, or control a laser. Always test on scrap material first, confirm LightBurn settings before running a job, and follow the safety guidance for your laser, enclosure, ventilation, and material.

30W MOPA and fiber galvo users are a primary target, but the generated PNGs are useful for other LightBurn galvo workflows too.
